CANDIDATE FOR arkansas' 2nd congressional district
Paul Spencer is running as a Democrat in the race to represent the people of Arkansas' 2nd congressional district. Paul has called central Arkansas home for the past 18 years, where he teaches Government and History at Little Rock Catholic High. Born into a blue-collar household in Ohio, Paul witnessed firsthand the struggles that so many hardworking families continuously face, and thus he understands the critical need for policies shaped for and by the people.
Following the Supreme Court’s infamous Citizens United v. FEC ruling in 2010, Paul formed a local group in Arkansas called Regnat Populus ("The People Rule"). Regnat Populus successfully influenced the passage of an Ethics Amendment to the Arkansas constitution in 2012. With the help of others, Paul also co-founded the Arkansas Democracy Coalition to streamline and collaborate organizational voices against dark money and corruption in politics.
Paul holds a B.S. in Anthropology from Franciscan University where he met his wife Stephanie. The two married in 1996 and moved to her hometown of Little Rock in 1999. They have three sons, Paul, Ralph, and Isaac. The Spencer family also runs a small apiary and pecan farm on 15 acres in Scott, Arkansas.
Elections that reflect the will of the people are paramount to upholding the integrity of a representative democracy. We must begin by acknowledging some basic truths:
Although non-human entities such as corporations, labor unions, etc., enjoy certain protections under law, they do not possess the same rights that are Constitutionally guaranteed to actual human persons in our electoral system.
Money spent on campaigns should not be equated with the political speech rights of actual humans.
This campaign operates under these core values and as such will only accept contributions from actual people.
